CIV co-founded and seeded The Nuclear Company (TNC) alongside Jonathan Webb and Kiran Bhatraju, both recognized leaders in sustainable infrastructure. From the beginning, CIV saw that a nuclear renaissance was not just inevitable, but imminent, due to skyrocketing energy demand with no viable supply alternatives. TNC was created to be the leader in deploying fleet-scale nuclear energy, leveraging advanced manufacturing to drive down costs and provide scalable, carbon-free power. Patrick Maloney, Co-Founder and CEO of CIV, serves as Co-Founder and Chairman of TNC, further cementing our deep involvement.
Global energy demand is accelerating, fueled by the electrification of everything from AI to manufacturing. Renewable energy sources alone cannot meet this demand, but nuclear power can—offering a reliable, proven solution for 24/7, zero-carbon energy. CIV co-developed the thesis that nuclear, deployed at fleet scale with advanced techniques, is essential to reshoring American industry and decarbonizing the global economy. The world quickly aligned with this view, as COP28 resulted in a historic announcement to triple nuclear capacity by 2050. TNC is purpose-built to be the platform that makes this ambition a reality.
CIV played a central role in shaping TNC’s strategy and execution. To bolster the company’s success, we engaged our operating partners across creative, policy, talent, and capital markets to accelerate TNC’s trajectory. This collaborative approach ensured the company’s fleet-scale model and long-term strategic vision were developed with precision and purpose. CIV also helped to place key leadership ensuring TNC had the operational expertise required to execute its rapid growth. Our network opened doors to crucial relationships with regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders, fast-tracking TNC’s ability to scale.
In less than seven months, TNC secured multiple term sheets for an oversubscribed Seed round, leading to a significant increase in valuation from our initial investment. This rapid growth demonstrates both the market’s recognition of nuclear energy’s potential and the strength of TNC’s vision. With advanced technology and a fleet-scale approach, TNC is positioned to lead the charge in meeting the world’s growing energy needs while advancing decarbonization goals.
